Work is progressing nicely on the Air Vent Cap at Blaengwynfi. a number of slabs are now free and ready to be lifted off. This won't happen of course until all the slabs are ready to be lifted. The 2 Cutters on the Concrete Alun Burnell and Paul Green. Note the two of them are wearing 'Fall Arresters, JUST IN CASE! Cutting Should be completed be late Thursday (5/4/18). Also you can see looking on and filming for the BBC Mr Matthew Murray for Wales Today which MAY be broadcast on Friday, if not next weeks sometime.
A busy day at the Blaengwynfi site today as the 'Cap' is being cut into 2 foot wide lengths. D Drill Group from Coventry are carrying out the work for Hammonds of Aberdare. D Drillers (Master Diamond Drillers) are using a 'Hllti High Cycle Track Saw TS20E' to cut through the 22 inches of Concrete and Steel. Alun Burnell and Paul Green started off with a 750 Saw Blade, then a Meter Saw Blade and then used the 'Monster' 1.5 Meter Saw Blade. The saw blades cost up to £1500. The Track for the Saw is anchored to the 'Cap' by 6 points allowing the Blades to cut through the Cap slowly. The Cap should to be ready to lift of in separate pieces by Thursday or Friday. I do hope you now see the progress and hope you will stand by us. We are working flat out, but the results speak for themselves. Well done everyone.
