On Wednesday 31st January, A Geotechnical Survey of the Material that was used to infill the cuttings at Blaencwm and Blaengwynfi Portals will take place. The Survey will take place over a few days. Although it is known that Colliery waste was used as infill, We still have to be sure that there is no contamination . The Survey consists of drilling a few small holes all the way down to the old railway track bed and taking small samples. Larger holes will be dug as well to see what debris is in with the infill. No disruption to the Village is likely, and all holes and ground work will be put back as it was before the contractors leave the site. If you have any queries, please contact the RTS Office at Treorchy. 01443 776665.
The contractor (Earth Science Partnership of Taff's Well) has just reported to us that the sites are both waterlogged, so we are going to postpone them until the sites have had a chance to dry out, probably in the spring.
