Another day, another step closer to our goal, the re-opening of the Rhondda Tunnel. The Cap that covered the Air Vent of the Rhondda Tunnel in Blaengwynfi was removed at 1. 30pm ready for the detailed examination due at the end of the month. The removal of the cap will allow vital equipment to be lowered into the tunnel and allow easier access for the engineers and workers. "It was certainly a wonderful day for the society, and a testimony to the dedicated members from all over the world. "Things are progressing amazingly well," said Steve Mackey, Chair of the Society. "We have on board some amazing retired engineers who have guided us through some difficult and challenging times. They are remarkable people. On Wednesday 11th of April, A Geotechnical Survey takes place at both Portals to ascertain the composition of the infill of the cuttings of the tunnel. An update will be posted on Wednesday 11th April.
